conky wrote:I played a place in Pensacola once. Can't remember the name of the place...Big Easy or some shit like that, it was a lounge at a hotel. Second song into our set this lady comes up and asks us to turn down. We do and she walks to my amp and turns it down even more and says that it shouldn't be louder than that. I hit a chord and was talking to her over it. We turned up way past what we were at before and played one more song and then packed up our shit and hit out towards the next show. The guy who booked us dipped out before we ever played so we didn't get paid either.

Those type shows suck so I hope you get asked to play there again and you give them the full 600 watts of hatred.

If I opt to play there again, I'm going with 900w's dragging out my Randall Cyclone, Crate Shockwave, and probably that Randall RG300 with an HM2 infront of it.

the drummer was there longer than I was cause I immediately picked up and left. He said the manager of the bar came up and apologized because of the soundman. And there wasn't much he can do to him since the owner of the bar is his brother. Out of all the bands, only the soundman's band was allowed to play at full volume because obviously it's his band. and there was just no possible way I can manage playing at that low of a volume.

If you are interested, AxAxSxS, this is exactly how I did it... had set up my camera to film the show and you can just hear see the pure aggrivation.

:picard: to all of that.

I had to miss the Elder/Earthless show last night because I have another round of the fucking flu.
So lame.

Oh Shit man!!! I saw then sunday...Elder...meh...was a bit expected and not surprising...but Earthless, Fuck me!
I've never been a huge Earthless fan. I listen to most of their stuff, but it never got me, but live is a different story all together. They were incredible!

also, went to a local festival on saturday put on by local record label (Art is Catharsis)...some really good bands and a small crowd. My band mate knows a lot of people, so it ended up being more a house party than a festival...met a bunch of people...and we got asked to play a gig at the end of november. At first i was stoked...but the next day I started packing shit...because we are far from being ready...good news is, we'll only play one of our songs (which is about 25mins) so at least its less to learn, but getting that one song to the point where we're comfortable is a bit of stretch. Since we dont count or time anything, every change is based on nods and looks, we need to be even more comfortable to allow the improvisation side of it to be natural...could be our first and last gig!

van_muddlestein: thanks for the link man...ill check it out.

Getting ready for shows is the best kick in the arse sometimes.
You'll be right.

Yeah I've seen Earthless. So good. My mate saw them in Melbourne as well and he really liked Elder's set so maybe it was the night?

Sucks about the show SLK, but that video made me lol and what little bit of tone I heard was awesome though.

The flu blows, get well soon, Pope.

Sam - surprised that Elder wasn't more impressive. Earthless definitely strikes me as a killer live band though.

Thanks. yea it would've been nice. Glad people get a kick out of the video at least. I've had fun ranting about the stupidity of it.

All the talk of 5150s in the amp/rig thread lately makes me wonder if this would be worth trying:

Thoughts?

Yes, it is ugly.

I'd be very interested in hearing it. If it's at all a close proximity it would be a very cool way to have a variety of sounds.

Strange feeling that the EVH overdrive is either nowhere near sounding like a 5150 else it would be labeled a distortion, because let's face it, that's the likely tone candidate that you'd be aiming for.
