do you guys do more NIN style where you make some stuff you love, then record it for song stuff?

or make loads and loads and loads of notes for patch info?

or say fuck it and not worry about being able to go back to an exact thingy?
I knew you wouldn't make it past this.

I have a full virtual system inside of the Roland Scooper, my first module. It allows me to save preset patches that I can modify and tweak on the fly. Full synth voices, filterbanks, noise, lfos, whatever combo I might need for a particular patch. There are 6 CV inputs to control parameters of whatever submodules I need them for. Modular is pretty much about moving away from presets and menus though, and just going all knobs, sliders and cable connections, so I'm doing a system that gradually goes that direction, step by step. My way has pretty much always been to just hook up odd combinations of stuff and record, save the best bits and use them in compositions. So modular of course is just another excellent way to do that.

neaaaaat. lol. yeah. i am NOT comfy if there are no patching options.

the Ct5 is beautiful and adventurous but skeery because of that.

Mostly the last option. I do sometimes take notes but I almost never check them later :).

The point is that you end up learning some sorts of patching patterns that you can re-use/combine later. But yeah, unless you specifically need to recreate particular sounds later it's nice to begin patching with a simple starting idea and let it evolve based on the results you get and the other ideas this gives you.

Thinking a bit more about it, it's probably a mix of the 3 points you mentioned for most people. When you get something you like, record it. Because you probably won't get the exact same thing later (though you can usually get very similar stuff), either take notes for important things or just learn them, and basically enjoy the whole process... :!!!:

Last one for me as well. Also because it's fun having a million possibilities when I'll probably end up using like 6. It's good to know I have all those possibilities though.

Yeah bowed guitar is awesome. Just a word of warning though. Clean your strings and guitar body after using it. The bow rosin can damage the finish on a guitar very quickly. Or set up a junk guitar just for that purpose. :idk:
